Objectives

In Canada, there are 2 categories of drone operations: basic and advanced. Each is governed by a set of rules that must be respected.

The “Advanced Operations” course is designed to teach you the basics of flying a drone weighing over 250 grams in controlled airspace, while complying with current regulations.

Learn everything you need to know to pass the Transport Canada exam and obtain your Drone Pilot Certification – Advanced Operations.

Your drone’s weight, distance from bystanders and airspace rules define your category. The rules make no distinction between recreational and commercial drone pilots.

If you meet 1 of the following conditions, you can take the course Advanced operations

You want to fly your drone in controlled airspace
Would you like to fly your drone over passers-by?
If you wish to fly your drone at a horizontal distance of less than 30 m (100 ft) from passers-by
You want to fly within 3 nautical miles of a certified airport or military airfield
You want to fly within one nautical mile of a certified heliport.
